As a web design agency, User Experience (UX) Design is at the forefront of our minds. Ben, one of our Senior Visual Designers, has recently completed a part-time UX Design course in order to support and develop our UX capabilities.
Natasha approached Ben last year with the idea of taking part in a UX Design course; recommending the General Assembly. Having worked as a graphic designer for over 10 years, Ben has a keen interest in UX Design and was eager to develop his knowledge. Ben travelled to London twice a week to complete the 12 week course.
Having products and services on a page is no longer enough. In order to beat the competition, you must ensure that users have an enjoyable and smooth experience on your website.
UX Design is based around understanding your target audience and how they are likely to use your website. Having a tailored approach to each individual client’s websites increases the chances of high engagement and increased conversions.
As a part of his course, Ben had to identify a problem and design an app based around the solution. As a keen gym goer, Ben thought that tracking and storing workouts on pen and paper was a bit archaic. He looked for apps that currently offered a solution and wasn’t convinced by any of them, so decided that was what he was going to base his app on.
Personas were a large part of Ben’s UX Design course – designing an app focusing specifically on a bespoke target audience is one of the most surefire ways to ensure its usefulness.The course helped Ben to develop his interviewing and user research skills to identify and develop personas. He is now able to use these skills during the consultancy phase of our process; ensuring that we get the best picture of our client’s target audience. We are currently trialling persona surveys on ourselves and will soon have the surveys routinely involved in our core business process.
Having learnt a great deal, Ben not only hopes to benefit Urban Element with his UX Design skills, but also hopes to progress into a UX Designer role. We were more than happy to support Ben throughout his course to enable him to develop his UX Design skills to the benefit all of our clients.
We have grown a lot in the past few months, with lots of new recruits and even an office refurb! Natasha and Jon are always thinking of new ways to grow and develop Urban Element and are keen to enhance individual team members' skillsets.
