We like to get a little competitive, and our social nights are pretty fun.
With a portfolio of unique clients, we pride ourselves on the strong relationships we’ve built, working with each other during and outside the standard '9 to 5'. The big event that Urban Element took part in earlier this year was the TwinTown Challenge in aid of our client, SpecialEffect. This three day event involved driving from Witney to France. One of the many challenges was the car itself. With each team limited to £500, teams had to buy and accessorize a car, and keep their fingers crossed they’d make it all the way to France.
Directors Natasha and Jon (an Ambassador for SpecialEffect), had a guaranteed place in the car, and it was left to an internal competition running over three months to decide who took the last two seats. It was Matt Gilbert and Douglas Handford who came out on top, and accompanied Natasha and Jon on the three day extravaganza.
Twin Town Challenge was a fantastic event which all together raised over ￡100,000 for an inspiring charity. The event was documented on the SpecialEffect Diary and you can read Urban Element's experience in our blog. Bring on 2016 when we do it all again.
We have also done the Ice Bucket Challenge, took part in a gruelling half marathon, walked over fire and will be competing in a 10k this November and Tough Mudder again next year in aid of the charities Urban Element support.
Personal growth and development is at the heart of Urban Element. Our quarterly 'Gazelle' meetings focus on Urban Element’s goals, and equally the goals of all who are the driving force behind Urban Element. When a goal is set, Urban Element help to ensure that by the next quarter, it is met. Reaching goals does not go unrewarded, and recent team trips have been to Go Ape and London to climb the O2.
As well as personal development, Urban Element is also keen to help develop any business ideas that the team may have. With our very own dragons, 'Urban Innovation' is your chance to pitch your business proposition, Dragon’s Den style.
So yes we all get along, but whose baking is better is the ultimate question. Officially, in an external business bake off event hosted by our client FOCUS Oxford LLP, Chris Sawyer is the best baker winning the judges choice award with his carrot cake. Internally, we are the judges and we are very critical. Douglas Handford, a member of the online marketing team for example got a unanimous vote that he should stick to what he does best, marketing. However, Dougie may have a chance to redeem himself in November with who can grow the best moustache for Movember.
We've had some great social nights so far supporting England in the 2014 World Cup (unfortunately the day they were kicked out), poker nights where again Chris Sawyer came out on top (Jon Ellard, our Director, has stressed he will not be beaten again), and we have bowling and our Christmas Party to come.
Working closely with our clients has benefits too. Just this week our client, T he Adlestrop Experience, has generously invited us to attend their regular morning on the gallops event. The Adlestrop Experience gives racehorse fans the opportunity to be involved in breeding or buying their own horse to run in their name and their colours. As part of the invite we will be watching the racehorses at exercise and getting to know about everything that is going on in the yard.
