We take a collaborative approach to building websites, partnering your expertise in your field with our specialists throughout your project. You will know better than anyone how to position your business, we can help you communicate this, your brand and company image to the right audience.
Your dedicated Project Manager will guide you through a 3 phase process of consultancy, design and build. This will typically span a 3 to 3 and a half month duration, talking to dedicated specialists for each part of the project with your Project Manager seeing that the project finishes on time and to budget.
We believe that developing your new website should be fun, done in a relaxed environment, and you should be comfortable about each and every stage.
The process below summarises key phases and elements of the project, so that you know exactly what to expect and when.
Phase 1 - Consultancy,
understanding your business goals
Our first step is to talk to you about what you are trying to accomplish. The focus of this initial meeting is to understand your business, the goals for your website, and your marketing needs. From this we will draw information about how to turn your goals into marketing actions.
At this stage we will discuss any ideas you have on look and feel, and whether there are any technical requirements that will influence the Content Management System (CMS) modules and web apps to be incorporated.
Your website forms an integral part to your wider branding and style. During the design part of the meeting we will look at your branding and discuss any print requirements you may have. We'll be asking you about your visual likes and dislikes, and listening to any ideas of how you would like your website to look and feel.
At this point we'll begin mapping out your website by putting together a first draft of your sitemap. We'll explain the different types of pages that will make up your website, and how many of each the site will require.
We'll explain the process for keyword research, how these keywords are used to create your SEO sitemap, and we'll describe how the your site's SEO quality assurance will be carried out. Following that we will collaboratively brainstorm keywords and keyword topic areas, with guidance from your Project Manager and an SEO Specialist.
We will discuss the areas of your site that will require content, from short length copy to pages with a word count of above 350. We'll be advising on general content planning and delivery and introducing our methods and tools for gathering content for the website.
Once the kick off, SEO, and content meetings are complete our team will reconvene for our internal consultancy de-brief.
We will create your consultancy pack, which will include; your final Sitemap, Keyword Research, and Wireframe (this is overseen by our Principle UX Designer & Information Architect). We will create your SEO Sitemap based on the Keyword Research and Sitemap. We will create a technical specification, detailing the pages, modules, and web apps (and their fields) for the site. We will create the Project Scope direction & budget expectations.
We will invite you to attend a face to face meeting where we will present your Consultancy Pack. We'll give you the rationale behind each of the elements of the Consultancy Pack. You'll have the opportunity to give your feedback on the Sitemap, Wireframe, and Technical Components. Based on the research and discussions we've had we'll also discuss how and whether the site will be mobile responsive. Following this stage there will be clear direction on your site's SEO elements including the SEO Sitemap, and the final Project Scope direction.
Phase 2 - Design
Two different design concepts of your home page will be developed. These will be created by one or more of our Senior Graphic Designers and overseen by our Principle UX Designer & Information Architect. Having two differing concepts allows us to present and pose different approaches to the website brief, and allows you to compare and choose.
The two design concepts will be presented face to face by the Senior Graphic Designer that created them for you. They will describe the thought process behind each concept, gathering your feedback on each. If the site is to be 'Mobile Responsive' the designer will also present how the homepage will look on a tablet and a mobile device.Once you've decided on your preference, gone through some iterations and signed off on the home page our designers will move on to the complete set of visuals.
At the consultancy stage we will have decided which type of pages the website would comprise of. These may be for example, category and product pages for ecommerce sites, enquiry forms, or blog and news pages. Having established the Design theme from the signed off Home Page Concept, we will create a complete set of Design Visuals for every type of page within the website. During a face to face meeting you'll be able to see this full set in order to sign off each page type design.
At this stage we'll be receiving content from you (unless you require us to create content), including all copy and images, and we'll be collecting details such as your payment gateway logins in preparation for the build stages.
Phase 3 - Website Build
This is a period of quiet for you, having been fully involved in discussions and decision making in the previous phases you'll be confident of the path and result you'll be receiving at the end of the project. At this point we have clear, signed off designs, agreed structure and page elements, and can proceed developing to best practices and with your goals and choices clearly mapped out. We will begin your website build by developing the set of HTML5 templates for the site, along with CSS3 styling and a Style Guide page. If the site is to be mobile responsive then the front end developer will be creating templates that display accurately across various screen sizes.
In addition to standard templated pages your site may include features that require web apps and modules. These are elements or pages on the site that add functionality such as blogs, forms, case studies, event calendars for example. It's at this stage that our Front End Developers will be creating these, styling them as per the agreed designs, and testing functionality.
For ecommerce sites only, the payment gateway will also require integration. We securely link your new website to your payment gateway provider for test and live payments, and ensure your payment gateway's logos and your terms and conditions are displayed appropriately. During the build phase we will train you on how to upload products.
In addition to testing throughout the build stage we will carry out a complete set of formal testing and validation tasks. For ecommerce sites this will include test purchases. For all sites we will test form validation, capture, and workflow. Your site will undergo a full SEO QA, where elements that focus on setting your site up to be found in search engines are checked. There will be a design QA by the Senior Designer, and a thorough full site usability QA. Anything brought to attention in the QAs will be resolved ready for the User Acceptance Testing (UAT) stage.
This is where we get you involved again. Once your site is built the final stage is for you to sit with us for your User Acceptance testing session. If you have any feedback that requires action we will address these and implement any changes ready for client acceptance followed by go live!
The final stage in launching your site is go live. Your Project Manager will confirm your launch date, manage the transferral of domains if required, and make sure that your site is launched without issue.
But that's not where it all ends.
