Social Media Planning Made Easy with Luke T

Social media marketing can be daunting if you’re not already an avid social media user. My job at Urban Element is to manage multiple accounts for our digital marketing clients. Over time, I have got to know all the tips and hacks out there that help make social media planning easier.

Working for a social media marketing agency means that I get to try out new things and experiment with our own accounts before experimenting with our clients’. There are a few things that you can do to make your social media marketing campaign run smoothly and encourage engagement.

Know your audience

This is rule number one when it comes to social media. What platform is your target audience using? If they’re not on Twitter, then maybe you should be focusing on Facebook, or LinkedIn, or even Instagram. There are loads of statistics around that show which demographics are more likely to be using different social media platforms. Based on this you may find what platform the majority of your target audience are using, and you can focus your time on that medium.

Followerwonk is a free tool built by Moz that allows you to learn more about your Twitter followers. It enables you to see a number of things, including the times that they’re most active and where they’re located, allowing you to tweet more effectively. It also helps you to find and connect with new influencers in your niche.

We can provide detailed persona research as part of our social media services.

Plan your social media campaign

Do some research. See what other people are saying. Is there a popular hashtag? Or maybe an online influencer? Seeing what else is being said around your subject will help you to create a campaign that is relevant and is likely to encourage interaction with others. Once you’ve done the research and established which platform to use, you’re ready to go!

There are different ways to approach the varying platforms, so consider this when you are creating content.

Use a social media management tool

Hootsuite is my central hub for all the accounts I manage. At the moment you can manage Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, YouTube and Google+. Using a management system like Hootsuite makes social media planning so much easier. It allows you to bulk upload, schedule, and engage with followers all in one place, saving you lots of valuable time.
